Akismet Plugin Wishlist

Posted in wordpress by Mark Jaquith on May 26th, 2006

What features would you like to see in a WordPress Akismet plugin that are not included in the default plugin? I have an expanded version that I created for my own use that has the following:

  • Select what types of comments (trackback, pingback, comment) Akismet will filter
  • Change the number of comments shown on the “Manage” screen
  • Improved options page

Let me know if you can think of anything else. I’ll likely release the modified plugin in a week or two.

Service agnostic setting - The ability to specify a server other than Akismet.com.

I’d love better error handling when the server isn’t able to contact Akismet, be it because of local firewall issues or downtime. (Hopefully the former.)

Manage->Comments should have ‘mark as spam’ kind of an option(perhaps with a shorter name); clicking “Edit”, selecting “Spam” and then clicking a button is too laborious. This is for spam that Akismet COULD NOT catch, of course.

Maybe users can submit comments and their sources to a certain akismet url with their custom rating? Like if I think that a comment is SURELY a spam, I will mark it as spam with rating 10. If I am doubtful, I will use a rating of 1.

I’d love to have an RSS feed of comments awaiting moderation!

WordPress moderation, or Akismet’s “caught spam” list?
