Shaun Inman on Plugins: WP vs TxP

Posted in Uncategorized by Mark Jaquith on December 10th, 2006

Could this be part of why WordPress has had so much more success than TxP? The whole “learn by example” thing was huge for me when I was getting started with WordPress (and heck, even now!)

I was going to take a stab at [creating a TXP plugin] but TXP plugins look unnecessarily complicated. Compiling PHP with the command line? No way to filter existing tags? And plugins come pre-compiled so there’s no simple way to learn by example.

It took me longer to learn that I want absolutely nothing to do with TXP plugins than it took to learn, create and release the Widon’t WordPress plugin.

I think I’ll let a seasoned pro handle this.
